“Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.”

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God,[1] and to enjoy him forever.[2]

Usually, I delete the blue linked footnotes to the Reformed Confessions, because I feel they distract the reader from comprehending the confession.  But, here, I leave them in the quote, and I recommend that you check them out, particularly footnote 2 for Question and Answer 1 which contains supporting verses to “enjoy him forever“.

One of my favorite verses is Psalm 32:11:  “Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones;
         And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.”

Do you know Christians who truly enjoy the Lord?  They are glad in the LORD and do rejoice and shout for joy.  Isn’t it wonderful to see them and to be around them?  Aren’t they becoming (attractive)?

Psalm 33:1
“Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones;  Praise is becoming to the upright.”
Psalm 147:1
“Praise the LORD!  For it is good to sing praises to our God;  For it is pleasant and praise is becoming.”

On the other hand, do you know Christians who seem sour or subdued?  They may seem pious and may be proud of this, their demeanor.  But, do you really want to be around them?  Are they really attractive?

We each are a fisher of men and want to attract others to Christ within us.  If we are sour or subdued, we will not attract people.  Why should they become Christians to be sour and subdued like us?  On the other hand, if we are glad, rejoicing, joyful, and clearly enjoying the LORD, then others will want to check us out.  They will want what we have which is Christ.
