“fix your hope completely on the grace”

Today’s devotion comes from 1 Peter 1:13-16.

“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;  because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

In today’s Scripture, and in all the similar following Scriptures, there is hope that we can be holy and do those things that we should do.  Today’s Scripture instructs us to “fix your hope completely on the grace”.

Likewise, notice the hope in the following similar Scriptures which contain similar duties but which also contain similar hope that we can be holy and do those things that we should do.  I have highlighted the words of hope in bold italic font.

“But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;  for you are all sons of light and sons of day.  We are not of night nor of darkness;  so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.  For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.  But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.”  1 Thessalonians 5:4-8.

“Who among you is wise and understanding?  Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.”  James 3:13.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”  Romans 12:2.

“For I am the Lord your God.  Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy.  …  For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God;  thus you shall be holy, for I am holy.’”  Leviticus 11:44-45.

In conclusion, as today’s Scripture commands, “fix your hope completely on the grace”.

God has made us to be sons of light.  So, we walk in the light sober and alert and prepared for action.

We are wise and understanding.  So, our deeds will be done in wisdom.  “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 1:30-31.

The will of God is that we do what is good and acceptable and perfect.  Therefore, we do what is good and perfect and acceptable.  “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6.

“Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure
‘;
Calling a bird of prey from the east,
The man of My purpose from a far country.
Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass.
I have planned it, surely I will do it.
”  Isaiah 46:9-11.

God is the One Who makes us holy.  So, we are holy.  “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely;  and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  1 Thessalonians 5:23

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;  seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.  For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.”  2 Peter 1:2-4.

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”  2 Corinthians 7:1.
