“But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us … sanctification” – “For you are a holy people to the LORD your God”

Today’s devotion comes from Numbers 31:19-24.

“And you, camp outside the camp seven days;  whoever has killed any person and whoever has touched any slain, purify yourselves, you and your captives, on the third day and on the seventh day.  You shall purify for yourselves every garment and every article of leather and all the work of goats’ hair, and all articles of wood.”

Then Eleazar the priest said to the men of war who had gone to battle, “This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded Moses:  only the gold and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin and the lead, everything that can stand the fire, you shall pass through the fire, and it shall be clean, but it shall be purified with water for impurity.  But whatever cannot stand the fire you shall pass through the water.  And you shall wash your clothes on the seventh day and be clean, and afterward you may enter the camp.”  Numbers 31:19-24.

Today’s Scripture leads us to meditate on God’s provisions for purification for us.

But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.”  1 Corinthians 1:30-31.

“… Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing;  but that she would be holy and blameless.”  Ephesians 5:25-27.

“For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”  Hebrews 10:14.

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely;  and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”  1 Thessalonians 5:23-24.

For you are a holy people to the LORD your God;  the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”  Deuteronomy 7:6.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.  …”  Ephesians 1:3-4.
