“His sovereignty rules over all.” – “My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure”

Today’s devotion comes from Deuteronomy 31:1-8.

“So Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel.  And he said to them, “I am a hundred and twenty years old today;  I am no longer able to come and go, and the LORD has said to me, ‘You shall not cross this Jordan.’  It is the LORD your God who will cross ahead of you;  He will destroy these nations before you, and you shall dispossess them.  Joshua is the one who will cross ahead of you, just as the LORD has spoken.  The LORD will do to them just as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, when He destroyed them.  The LORD will deliver them up before you, and you shall do to them according to all the commandments which I have commanded you.  Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you.  He will not fail you or forsake you.”

Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance.  The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you;  He will be with you.  He will not fail you or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed.”  Deuteronomy 31:1-8.

Do we draw attention to ourselves?

Or, do we draw attention to the LORD?

As great of a leader Moses was, Moses humbled himself.  He said:  “I am a hundred and twenty years old today;  I am no longer able to come and go, and the LORD has said to me, ‘You shall not cross this Jordan.’”  See verses 1-2.

Moses exalted the LORD as we can clearly see from today’s Scripture as summarized in his conclusion:  “The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you;  He will be with you.  He will not fail you or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed.”  See verse 8.

Other doctrine exalts man, man’s wisdom, man’s will, and man’s works.

But, Reformed Doctrine exalts God, God’s wisdom, God’s will, and God’s works.

“9 “Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure
’;
11 Calling a bird of prey from the east,
The man of My purpose from a far country.
Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass.
I have planned it, surely I will do it.
” Isaiah 46:9-11.

“The LORD has established His throne in the heavens,
And His sovereignty rules over all.” Psalm 103:19.

“The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice;
Let the many islands be glad.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
3 Fire goes before Him
And burns up His adversaries round about.” Psalm 97:1-3.

“The LORD your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” Zephaniah 3:17.

“How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who announces peace
And brings good news of happiness,
Who announces salvation,
And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!” Isaiah 52:7.

“Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;  but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth;  for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.”  Jeremiah 9:23-24.

God accomplishes all of His good pleasure.  Total Perfect Triumph.

“The Rock! His work is perfect,
For all His ways are just;
A God of faithfulness and without injustice,
Righteous and upright is He.” Deuteronomy 32:4.

“For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.” Psalm 92:4.

“Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart,
In the company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 Great are the works of the LORD;
They are studied by all who delight in them.

3 Splendid and majestic is His work,
And His righteousness endures forever.

4 He has made His wonders to be remembered;
The LORD is gracious and compassionate.
5 He has given food to those who fear Him;
He will remember His covenant forever.
6 He has made known to His people the power of His works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.

7 The works of His hands are truth and justice;
All His precepts are sure.
8 They are upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent redemption to His people;
He has ordained His covenant forever;
Holy and awesome is His name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.” Psalm chapter 111.
