“Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling.” – “The works of His hands are truth and justice”

Today’s devotion comes from 1 Kings 11:14-25.  Here is a link to this Scripture – 1 Kings 11 NASB1995 – – Bible Gateway

I quote only the following verses.

“Then the LORD raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite;  he was of the royal line in Edom.  …

God also raised up another adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.  He gathered men to himself and became leader of a marauding band, after David slew them of Zobah;  and they went to Damascus and stayed there, and reigned in Damascus.  So he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, along with the evil that Hadad did;  and he abhorred Israel and reigned over Aram.”  1 Kings 11:14 and 23-25.

Even though we do not read of battles or war started by these adversaries in today’s Scripture, the mere raising of adversaries to Solomon causes us to tremble in fear at the almighty sovereign power of the LORD.

But, there is hope!

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
” Proverbs 9:10.

“7 The works of His hands are truth and justice;
All His precepts are sure.
8 They are upheld forever and ever;
They are performed in truth and uprightness.
9 He has sent redemption to His people;
He has ordained His covenant forever;
Holy and awesome is His name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.” Psalm 111:7-10.

“10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the LORD with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.

12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” Psalm 2:10-12.

“O LORD, how my adversaries have increased!
Many are rising up against me.
2 Many are saying of my soul,
“There is no deliverance for him in God.” Selah.

3 But You, O LORD, are a shield about me,
My glory, and the One who lifts my head.
4 I was crying to the LORD with my voice,
And He answered me from His holy mountain. Selah.
5 I lay down and slept;
I awoke, for the LORD sustains me.
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people
Who have set themselves against me round about.

7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God!
For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek;
You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.” Psalm chapter 3.
