Today’s devotion comes from Psalm 9:1-10.
“I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart;
I will tell of all Your wonders.
2 I will be glad and exult in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
3 When my enemies turn back,
They stumble and perish before You.
4 For You have maintained my just cause;
You have sat on the throne judging righteously.
5 You have rebuked the nations, You have destroyed the wicked;
You have blotted out their name forever and ever.
6 The enemy has come to an end in perpetual ruins,
And You have uprooted the cities;
The very memory of them has perished.
7 But the LORD abides forever;
He has established His throne for judgment,
8 And He will judge the world in righteousness;
He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
9 The LORD also will be a stronghold for the oppressed,
A stronghold in times of trouble;
10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You,
For You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:1-10.

Last night, I was restless and not content. I was meditating on today’s Scripture about the righteousness of the LORD but did not feel sufficient joy in the righteousness of the LORD. I had sufficient additional supporting Scriptures about the righteousness of the LORD, and this was in addition to another devotion on the justice and righteousness of the LORD earlier this week, on Monday, February 9, 2026 which was one of my longest devotions at 2,442 words. But, I did not feel the joy of David who wrote in verse 2: “I will be glad and exult in You”. My meditation seemed like cold academics. I was not captivated by joy in the thought of the righteousness of the LORD.
But, there is hope!
We do not need to wait for the LORD to deliver us from our enemies to personally experience such joy, but being delivered from our enemies is certainly a very valid reason to rejoice in the righteousness of the LORD.
Nor do we need to wait for “all these things will be added” to us for those who “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” as promised in Matthew 6:33. But, receiving such good things is also certainly a very valid reason to rejoice in the righteousness of the LORD.
The LORD gives us grace to rejoice in the LORD for Who He is even outside of what He does for us.
“The Rock! His work is perfect,
For all His ways are just;
A God of faithfulness and without injustice,
Righteous and upright is He.” Deuteronomy 32:4.
Man is naturally man-centered and inclined to limit giving glory to God for only what God has done for him.
But, God deserves glory for more than only His lovingkindness; God also deserves glory for His justice, His righteousness, and His other excellent qualities.
“Glory of God” is such an important subject that it is a headnote on top of Home Page which the reader has as a resource to click on this link to consider this point.
But, the focus of this devotion is to consider Scriptures of the gladness and joy that the LORD supernaturally gives to us.
“For You, O LORD, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.” Psalm 92:4.
“You have put gladness in my heart,
More than when their grain and new wine abound.” Psalm 4:7.
“You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” Psalm 16:11.
“For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God’s sight. …” Ecclesiastes 2:26.
One of the fruit of the Spirit is joy. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22.
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, `From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water’” John 7:38.
“but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life” John 4:14.
“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.” John 15:11.
“But now I come to You; and these things I speak in the world so that they may have My joy made full in themselves.” John 17:13.
“Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.” Psalm 32:11.
