Today’s devotion comes from Leviticus chapter 1.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%201&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“Then the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When any man of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of animals from the herd or the flock.  If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer it, a male without defect;  he shall offer it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD.  He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, that it may be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf.  He shall slay the young bull before the LORD;  and Aaron’s sons the priests shall offer up the blood and sprinkle the blood around on the altar that is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.  He shall then skin the burnt offering and cut it into its pieces.  The sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.  Then Aaron’s sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head and the suet over the wood which is on the fire that is on the altar.  Its entrails, however, and its legs he shall wash with water.  And the priest shall offer up in smoke all of it on the altar for a burnt offering, an offering by fire of a soothing aroma to the LORD.”  Leviticus 1:1-9.

———————–

The two phrases highlighted above in bold italic font, “a male without defect” and “a soothing aroma to the LORD” point us to Christ Who could be a sacrifice for our sins, because He was without sin, “a male without defect”, and He was pleasing to God, “a soothing aroma to the LORD”.

Regarding Christ being without sin, “a male without defect”, consider the following verses.

“For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”  Hebrews 9:13-14.

“For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.  Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”  Hebrews 4:15-16.

Regarding Christ being pleasing to God, “a soothing aroma to the LORD”, consider the following verses.

“After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water;  and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”  Matthew 3:16-17.

“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.  Therefore, when He (Christ) comes into the world, He says,

“SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED,
BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;
IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE.
“THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME
(IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME)
TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’”

…  By this will (God the Father’s will) we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins;  but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET.  For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”  Hebrews 10:4-7 and 10-14.

In Him (Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.  In all wisdom and insight He made known to us the mystery of His will (God the Father’s will), according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him (Christ) with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth.”  Ephesians 1:7-10.

“I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU”

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 40:34-38.

“Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.  Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.  Throughout all their journeys whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out;  but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up.  For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.”  Exodus 40:34-38.

————–

“… for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say,

“THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID.
WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?” Hebrews 13:5-6.

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;  that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”  John 14:15-17.

“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.  For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;  and these whom He predestined, He also called;  and these whom He called, He also justified;  and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

What then shall we say to these things?  If God is for us, who is against us?  He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?  Who will bring a charge against God’s elect?  God is the one who justifies;  who is the one who condemns?  Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.  Who will separate us from the love of Christ?  Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  …  But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Romans 8:31-35 and 37-39.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one;  I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me.”  John 17:22-23.

“Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.”  Luke 12:32.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 40:17-33.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2040&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“Now in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected.  …  He lighted the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  Then he placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the veil;  and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  Then he set up the veil for the doorway of the tabernacle.  He set the altar of burnt offering before the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  He placed the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing.  From it Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet.  When they entered the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.  He erected the court all around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the veil for the gateway of the court.  Thus Moses finished the work.”  Exodus 40:17 and 25-33.

—————–

Today’s Scripture leads us to meditate on finishing our work.  Just because we start a good work, let us not be complacent, thinking that we will necessarily finish it.

“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?  Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’”  Luke 14:28-30.

“But now finish doing it also, so that just as there was the readiness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability.”  2 Corinthians 8:12.

“But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.”  Acts 20:24.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;”  2 Timothy 4:7.

In a nutshell, we persevere in faith, trusting God to preserve us, to finish and perfect the good work that He began in us, and give us the victory.

Consider the following from the Canons of Dordt in the section titled FIFTH HEAD OF DOCTRINE Of the Perseverance of the Saints.

Article 3.  By reason of these remains of indwelling sin, and the temptations of sin and of the world, those who are converted could not persevere in a state of grace, if left to their own strength.  But God is faithful, who having conferred grace, mercifully confirms, and powerfully preserves them herein, even to the end.

“I will cry to God Most High,
To God who accomplishes all things for me.” Psalm 57:2.

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6.

“but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:57-58.

“For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.  But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain;  but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.  Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.”  1 Corinthians 15:9-11.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 40:9-16.

“Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its furnishings;  and it shall be holy.  You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.  You shall anoint the laver and its stand, and consecrate it.  Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.  You shall put the holy garments on Aaron and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister as a priest to Me.  You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them;  and you shall anoint them even as you have anointed their father, that they may minister as priests to Me;  and their anointing will qualify them for a perpetual priesthood throughout their generations.”  Thus Moses did;  according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did.”  Exodus 40:9-16.

———————

The anointing theme of today’s Scripture leads us to meditate on the Holy Spirit.

“As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you;  but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.”  1 John 2:27.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”  John 14:26.

“When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”  John 15:26-27.

“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.  But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth;  for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak;  and He will disclose to you what is to come.  He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.  All things that the Father has are Mine;  therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.”  John 16:12-15.

“but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;  and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”  Acts 1:8.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 40:1-8.

“Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.  You shall place the ark of the testimony there, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.  You shall bring in the table and arrange what belongs on it;  and you shall bring in the lampstand and mount its lamps.  Moreover, you shall set the gold altar of incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the veil for the doorway to the tabernacle.  You shall set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.  You shall set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it.  You shall set up the court all around and hang up the veil for the gateway of the court.”  Exodus 40:1-8.

—————

The key words in bold italic font of “set up” and “set” in today’s Scripture leads us to meditate on the specific instructions by the LORD.

How do we handle the affairs of the church and our own affairs?

If we focus on man and trust man, then we gravitate toward freedom and our own wisdom.

But, if we focus on God and trust God, then we gravitate toward acceptance of God’s specific instructions and God’s wisdom.

So, what did Moses do?

“Thus Moses did;  according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did.”  Exodus 40:16.

“He who gives attention to the word will find good,
And blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.” Proverbs 16:20.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3.

“5 Thus says the LORD,
“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD.
6 “For he will be like a bush in the desert
And will not see when prosperity comes,
But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,
A land of salt without inhabitant.
7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD
And whose trust is the LORD.
8 “For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
And will not fear when the heat comes;
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.” Jeremiah 17:5-8.

I quote only the following verses.

“Thus all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting was completed;  and the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses;  so they did.  They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its furnishings:  its clasps, its boards, its bars, and its pillars and its sockets;  …  So the sons of Israel did all the work according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses.  And Moses examined all the work and behold, they had done it;  just as the LORD had commanded, this they had done.  So Moses blessed them.”  Exodus 39:32-33 and 42-43.

—————-

“Samuel said,

“Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
” 1 Samuel 15:22.

“You shall therefore love the LORD your God, and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.  Know this day that I am not speaking with your sons who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of the LORD your God—His greatness, His mighty hand and His outstretched arm, … but your own eyes have seen all the great work of the LORD which He did.

“You shall therefore keep every commandment which I am commanding you today, so that you may be strong and go in and possess the land into which you are about to cross to possess it;  so that you may prolong your days on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give to them and to their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.  …

“It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil.  He will give grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.  Beware that your hearts are not deceived, and that you do not turn away and serve other gods and worship them.  Or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you, and He will shut up the heavens so that there will be no rain and the ground will not yield its fruit;  and you will perish quickly from the good land which the LORD is giving you.

“You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul;  and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.  You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your sons may be multiplied on the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heavens remain above the earth.  For if you are careful to keep all this commandment which I am commanding you to do, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and hold fast to Him, then the LORD will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and mightier than you. …

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:  the blessing, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am commanding you today;  and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I am commanding you today, by following other gods which you have not known.”  Deuteronomy 11:1-2 and 7-9 and 13-23 and 26-28.

But, there is hope!

I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”  Ezekiel 36:27.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 39:22-31.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2039&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and inscribed it like the engravings of a signet, “Holy to the LORD.”  They fastened a blue cord to it, to fasten it on the turban above, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.”  Exodus 39:30-31.

————–

“Thus you are to be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy;  and I have set you apart from the peoples to be Mine.”  Leviticus 20:26.

This point, “you are to be holy to Me, for I the LORD am holy”, is one of the main themes of the book of Leviticus.  See, for examples, Leviticus 11:44-45, Leviticus 19:2, Leviticus 20:7, and Leviticus 21:8.

But alas, we are far from holy in our natural condition.

Reformed Doctrine teaches us that man’s condition corrupted by the fall of Adam (through Adam’s sin) is a condition of “Total Depravity”, the “T” of “TULIP”, the Five Points of Calvinism.

We were “dead” in sin.  Ephesians 2:1-5.  We were hostile to God.  Romans 8:7 and Colossians 1:21.  We were in bondage to sin.  Romans 7:14-15.

“10 as it is written,

“THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
11 THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS,
THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD;
12 ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS;
THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD,
THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE.” Romans 3:10-12.

The fallen condition of man is not that we are just affected or injured by the presence of sin.  Rather,  “… you were dead in your trespasses and sins,”  Ephesians 2:1.

But, there is hope!

For God’s elect, God sanctifies us.  “…  I am the LORD who sanctifies you, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, to be your God;  I am the LORD.”  Leviticus 22:32-33.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”  Ephesians 2:4-7.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.  …”  Ephesians 1:3-4.

“But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,”  1 Corinthians 1:30.

“For by one offering (Christ) He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”  Hebrews 10:14.

“But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”  1 Peter 2:9.

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely;  and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”  1 Thessalonians 5:23-24.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 39:8-21.

Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2039&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“He made the breastpiece, the work of a skillful workman, like the workmanship of the ephod:  of gold and of blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen.  It was square;  they made the breastpiece folded double, a span long and a span wide when folded double.  And they mounted four rows of stones on it.  The first row was a row of ruby, topaz, and emerald;  and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire and a diamond;  and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst;  and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper.  They were set in gold filigree settings when they were mounted.  The stones were corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel;  they were twelve, corresponding to their names, engraved with the engravings of a signet, each with its name for the twelve tribes.”  Exodus 39:8-14.

————–

“And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God, you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.  …

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”  1 Peter 2:4-5 and 9.

“…  “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, having the glory of God.  Her brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.  It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels;  and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.  …

…  The foundation stones of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was jasper;  the second, sapphire;  the third, chalcedony;  the fourth, emerald;  the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius;  the seventh, chrysolite;  the eighth, beryl;  the ninth, topaz;  the tenth, chrysoprase;  the eleventh, jacinth;  the twelfth, amethyst.  …”  Revelation 21:9-12 and 19-20.

“just as the LORD had commanded Moses”

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 39:1-7.

“Moreover, from the blue and purple and scarlet material, they made finely woven garments for ministering in the holy place as well as the holy garments which were for Aaron, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

He made the ephod of gold, and of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen.  Then they hammered out gold sheets and cut them into threads to be woven in with the blue and the purple and the scarlet material, and the fine linen, the work of a skillful workman.  They made attaching shoulder pieces for the ephod;  it was attached at its two upper ends.  The skillfully woven band which was on it was like its workmanship, of the same material: of gold and of blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.

They made the onyx stones, set in gold filigree settings; they were engraved like the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the sons of Israel.  And he placed them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.”  Exodus 39:1-7.

—————

If the holy garments for Aaron had to be made exactly as specified “just as the LORD had commanded Moses”, as we see repeated three times in today’s Scripture, then how much more should our congregational worship of God (by what we do and say) be “just as the LORD had commanded Moses”!

And yet, we see a movement in churches today to worship God just as they please.  Nowhere is it more evident than in the praise music sung by professional polished performers edging out congregational singing with their own lyrics of 7 words repeated 11 times louder and louder, drifting away from Scripture-based lyrics.

Every Sunday, it bothers me.  But, it bothers me most at Christmas time.  We all go to church wanting to sing our favorite Christmas songs, and yet the praise singers dominate the songs with their mics turned up in order to drown out the singing of the congregation to show off their own polished voices.  If that was not enough, the lyrics are changed to include unknown refrains (parts of the song) mixed into the traditional songs, to make the congregation just give up singing so that they will stand silently to listen in awe to the polished performer, and then of course, to clap loudly at the end of the song to praise only the polished performer.

And, if that was not bad enough, we see other parts of the service such as “Call to Worship”, “Scripture Reading”, “Congregational Prayer”, sacraments, offerings, and even the sermon minimized or edged out altogether to make more room for the polished, professional performers, and their praise music.

Unfortunately, we see this even in some conservative Reformed and Presbyterian churches which at least pay lip service to the Regulative Principle of Worship.  The format of a short devotion does not allow space to fully lay out and support the Regulative Principle other than briefly explain it.  There is an article written titled “Public Worship and the Reformed Faith” by Professor Barrett L. Gritters of the Protestant Reformed Churches.  In his article, Professor Gritters explains the  Regulative Principle as follows:  “Reformed believers teach that our worship is to be just what God commands it to be—nothing more, nothing less. This is of utmost importance for us to understand in connection with Biblical, Reformed worship. God does not leave it up to us to determine the manner of our worship of God. God’s Word regulates us in how we must worship Him.”  (Highlight in bold italic font added by Bill).

“10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the LORD with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.” Psalm 2:10-11.

“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.” Psalm 100:1-2.

“O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD,
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.” Psalm 95:1-2.

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 38:21-31.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2038&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“This is the number of the things for the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony, as they were numbered according to the command of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.  …

All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the sanctuary, even the gold of the wave offering, was 29 talents and 730 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary.  The silver of those of the congregation who were numbered was 100 talents and 1,775 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary;  a beka a head (that is, half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary), for each one who passed over to those who were numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for 603,550 men.  The hundred talents of silver were for casting the sockets of the sanctuary and the sockets of the veil;  one hundred sockets for the hundred talents, a talent for a socket.  Of the 1,775 shekels, he made hooks for the pillars and overlaid their tops and made bands for them.  The bronze of the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels.”  Exodus 38:21 and 24-29.

“This is the number of the things for the tabernacle …”  Verse 21.

The exact cost of the tabernacle is written in today’s Scripture, and the exact number of items that were made for the construction of the temple was written in Exodus chapters 36 through 38.

The importance to this knowledge, shown by including the numbers in Scripture, gives us hope that God also knows, and considers it important, what efforts and expenditures go into the good works that God has prepared for us to do.

We should not be discouraged, nor fear, that it is not important to God.  Sometimes, it may seem to us that our efforts and expenditures are wasted.  So to speak, we may feel like our wheels are spinning and that we are drifting.  But, God has a purpose.  God may be building faith.  God may want us to focus on another area of life for a while.  Although we may think that we need to get a lot more done, God may have already accomplished what concerns us within our work in one area, and God is working within us in another area of our life.

In summary, the righteous live by faith not sight.  Our faith is more precious to God than gold (1 Peter 1:6-7).  We can trust that we are God’s workmanship for good works that He prepared for us to do (Ephesians 2:10), that He works within us both to give us the will to do His will and to work within us for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), and that He will perfect the work that He began within us (Philippians 1:6).

“For the LORD knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.” Psalm 1:6.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent?  And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  So do not fear;  you are more valuable than many sparrows.”  Matthew 10:29-31.

The LORD will accomplish what concerns me;
Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is everlasting;
Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:8.

“I will cry to God Most High,
To God who accomplishes all things for me.” Psalm 57:2.

but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”  1 Corinthians 15:57-58.
