“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Today’s devotion comes from Acts 19:8-10.

“And he entered the synagogue and continued speaking out boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading them about the kingdom of God.  But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people, he withdrew from them and took away the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.  This took place for two years, so that all who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks.”  Acts 19:8-10.

Paul protected himself and his disciples from those who were “hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people”.  Paul withdrew from them and took away the disciples.

“A prudent man sees evil and hides himself,
The naive proceed and pay the penalty.”  Proverbs 27:12.

“14 Do not enter the path of the wicked
And do not proceed in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, do not pass by it;
Turn away from it and pass on.”  Proverbs 4:14-15.

“He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.”  Proverbs 13:20.

“But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.  Reject a factious (quarrelsome) man after a first and second warning, knowing that such a man is perverted and is sinning, being self-condemned.”  Titus 3:9-11.

“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.  For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,  unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power;  Avoid such men as these.”  2 Timothy 3:1-5.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”  Psalm 1:1-3.
