Today’s devotion comes from Psalm 33:6-9. Due to the length of this devotion and the importance of giving glory to the LORD for creating the earth and the heavens, we will pause a few days to meditate on it. The next devotion, God willing, will be on Friday, April 24, 2026.
“6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their host.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the LORD;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.” Psalm 33:6-9.
_________
“The LORD has established His throne in the heavens,
And His sovereignty rules over all.” Psalm 103:19.
“9 “Remember the former things long past,
For I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is no one like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning,
And from ancient times things which have not been done,
Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;
11 Calling a bird of prey from the east,
The man of My purpose from a far country.
Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass.
I have planned it, surely I will do it.” Isaiah 46:9-11.
“But our God is in the heavens;
He does whatever He pleases.” Psalm 115:3.
“It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it.
I stretched out the heavens with My hands
And I ordained all their host.” Isaiah 45:12.
“For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited),
“I am the LORD, and there is none else.” Isaiah 42:18.
The LORD’S sovereignty covers creation as today’s Scripture confirms.
“For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast.” Verse 9.
“Let all the earth fear the LORD;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.” Verse 8.
And yet, so many vainly teach evolution. Why?
Scripture is so clear and consistent on the LORD creating the earth and the heavens from the very beginning of the Bible.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1. Consider that if creation by the LORD was such a minor teaching, then why did the Bible teach it so strongly from the very beginning of the Bible?
And, specifically consider how Genesis chapter 1 pounds the table six times on the short time frame of one day for each part of creation by the LORD, stating six times similar language: “And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” Genesis 1:5, Genesis 1:8 (using “a second day” instead of “one day”), Genesis 1:13 (using “a third day” instead of “one day”), Genesis 1:19 (using “a fourth day” instead of “one day”), Genesis 1:23 (using “a fifth day” instead of “one day”), and Genesis 1:31 (using “the sixth day” instead of “one day”).
Rather than giving glory to the LORD for creation, man would rather speculate on something else creating the earth and the heavens such as evolution. But, God is not mocked nor moved.
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.” Romans 1:20-23.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.” Romans 1:18-19.
“Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?
2 The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
3 “Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”
10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the LORD with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” Psalm chapter 2.
“Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!
2 Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
4 Praise Him, highest heavens,
And the waters that are above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD,
For He commanded and they were created.
6 He has also established them forever and ever;
He has made a decree which will not pass away.” Psalm 148:1-5.
“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.” Revelation 4:11.
