“For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.”

Today’s devotion comes from Exodus 16:19-21.

“Moses said to them, “Let no man leave any of it until morning.”  But they did not listen to Moses, and some left part of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul;  and Moses was angry with them.  They gathered it morning by morning, every man as much as he should eat;  but when the sun grew hot, it would melt.”  Exodus 16:19-21.

We see a similar principle in the observance of the Passover Lamb.

“And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.”  Exodus 12:10.

Jesus is our Bread of Life and our Passover Lamb.  We are led to meditate on how we eat the Lord’s Supper.

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread;  and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you;  do this in remembrance of Me.”  In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood;  do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”  For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”  1 Corinthians 11:23-26.

Consider that when we eat the bread given to us, we eat all of it.  We do not save any of it.  We do not leave any of it to eat it later.

And, when we drink the cup given to us, we drink all of it.  We do not save any of it.  We do not leave any of it to drink later.

Thereby, we are reminded of two things.  First, we are reminded that we need all of what our Lord obtained for us through His sacrifice on the cross.  Second, we are reminded that by our Lord’s one offering of His body and His blood on the cross, He provided all that we needed.  Our Lord did not need to make sacrifices repeatedly.

“Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins;  but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES BE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET.  For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.  And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us;  for after saying,

“THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM
AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD:
I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART,
AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM,”

He then says,

“AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS
I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE.”

Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”  Hebrews 10:11-22.
