“But, there is hope!”

Today’s devotion comes from Romans 15:7-13.

7  Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.

8  For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers,

9  and fort he Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy;  as it is written,

“THEREFORE I WILL GIVE PRAISE TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES,
AND I WILL SING TO YOUR NAME.”

10  Again he says,

“REJOICE, O GENTILES, WITH HIS PEOPLE.”

11  And again,

“PRAISE THE LORD ALL YOU GENTILES,
AND LET ALL THE PEOPLES PRAISE HIM.”

12  Again Isaiah says,

“THERE SHALL COME THE ROOT OF JESSE,
AND HE WHO ARISES TO RULE OVER THE GENTILES,
IN HIM SHALL THE GENTILES HOPE.”

13  Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:7-13.

By now, hopefully, you have recognized the trademark of these daily devotions which is the following exclamation:  “But, there is hope!”

Through Scripture, we are repeatedly faced with both knowledge of what is right and our inability to do right.

But, there is hope!

We turn our eyes from ourselves to our God, and we gain hope.  In today’s Scripture, we read:  “IN HIM SHALL THE GENTILES HOPE.”  We also read this conclusion of hope:  “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Psalm 119:166
“I hope for Your salvation, O LORD, And do Your commandments.”

1 Thessalonians 5:8
“But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.”

Romans 8:24
“For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?”

In summary, let us hope for salvation.  Let us put on the armor of God including the helmet which is the hope of salvation.  Let us turn our eyes from ourselves to God and hope.  Let us realize that our God is “the God of hope“.  Let us realize that we abound in hope “by the power of the Holy Spirit“.  And finally, let us realize  “… hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”  Romans 5:5.
