As some of you may know, I am daily reading through Scripture in its order. Today’s devotion was Acts 22:1-16. In two of these verses, there is this word “appointed”.
“And I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ And the Lord said to me, ‘Get up and go on into Damascus, and there you will be told of all that has been appointed for you to do.’ ” Acts 22:10. There were works for Paul to do that were appointed by God.
“And he said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know His will and to see the Righteous One and to hear an utterance from His mouth.” Acts 22:14. God appointed the person Paul to know His will, to see Christ, and to hear words from Christ.
God’s sovereignty is displayed through the use of the word “appointed” in these verses. God appoints people. God appoints works. “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10.
