The Canons of Dordt
Happy New Year! Today’s devotion focuses on The Canons of Dordt. Many of you have taught The Canons of Dordt, but there are some of you who are not as familiar with this Reformed confession.
What is particularly compelling about The Canons of Dordt is that it summarizes what is the most distinctive “signature” doctrine of Reformed Doctrine: “TULIP”, the Five Points of Calvinism. It is easier to read and digest compared with the other Reformed confessions, because it is shorter in length and it deals with only one subject (the doctrine of salvation), compared to the other Reformed confessions which are more comprehensive and more lengthy.
I copied and pasted the following Articles 1 and 2 from
The Canons of Dordt from the Daily Confession web site –
Click here: Daily Confession which contains daily Reformed confessions from one of the following:
The Belgic Confession, The Canons of Dordt, The Heidelberg Catechism, and The Westminister Confession of Faith. You may consider “bookmarking” it as a Favorite Link.
For those, who want to read
The Belgic Confession, The Canons of Dordt, The Heidelberg Catechism, in their entirety, here is the link to these Reformed confessions provided by the Protestant Reformed Churches –

The First Head of Doctrine: Divine Election and Reprobation
The Judgment Concerning Divine Predestination Which the Synod Declares to Be in Agreement with the Word of God and Accepted Till Now in the Reformed Churches, Set Forth in Several Articles
Article 1: God’s Right to Condemn All People
Since all people have sinned in Adam and have come under the sentence of the curse and eternal death, God would have done no one an injustice if it had been his will to leave the entire human race in sin and under the curse, and to condemn them on account of their sin. As the apostle says: The whole world is liable to the condemnation of God (Rom. 3:19), All have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23), and The wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23).
Article 2: The Manifestation of God’s Love
But this is how God showed his love: he sent his only begotten Son into the world, so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
My hope is that two of your New Year’s Resolutions will be to read The Canons of Dordt in its entirety this year and to daily read the Daily Confession.
