“Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.”

Today’s devotion is Luke 8:26-39 which covers Jesus’ healing of the demoniac named “Legion”.  We will focus on verse 39.

“Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.” So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.”  Luke 8:39.

Are we content to tell others what great things God has done for us?  Or, do we want to tell someone else’s story?

Are we a good witness telling others of our own personal experiences and our own personal observations?  Or, are we an objectionable witness, because we keep trying to testify as to the experiences and observations of others?

I see this all the time by Christians who should know better.  We don’t want to tell others of the great blessings that God has done for us.  Instead, we are eager to discount them or hide them by telling others of the sufferings of the people in China or some other far corner of the world.

Let the people of China testify as to their own personal experiences and their own personal observations.  Let them testify as to their own conclusions as to whether or not God is faithful.

You testify as to your own personal experiences and your own personal observations!

We are eager to quote Scripture and that is certainly fine, but we are unwilling to share our own personal experiences as to what God has done for us.  We are unwilling to share the joys, and we are unwilling to share the tears.  We are unwilling to share the victories, and we are unwilling to share the failures.

We are eager to make prayer requests.  But, we are unwilling to give praise reports.

We are eager to pray for some unknown Joe Blow, a second cousin of our uncle in Small City, Montana.  But, we are unwilling to ask for prayer for ourselves.

“Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.”
