Today’s devotion is Luke 12:11-12.
“When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say; for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Luke 12:11-12.
This Scripture, so providentially placed so close after the prior Scripture, brings us back to grace, and it reminds us that a saving confession is not like a passing grade accomplished by a seminary student in response to an oral examination. I can see how my prior devotion, adding necessary element after necessary element to a saving confession, can lead to that thought (of a salvation based on intelligence and performance).
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
“For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.” 1 Corinthians 1:21.
“For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-29.
However, let us not carried away to laziness. Scripture does call us to knowledge. Scripture does call us to Godly wisdom. Scripture does call us to diligence.
But, Scripture also assures us that the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.” John 16:13-14.
So, putting together these two “magnificent promises” (see also 2 Peter 1:2-4), the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth, and the Holy Spirit will give us the right words to say, for this saving confession.
