A Hard Hat and Lunch Pail Ministry

Today’s devotion comes from 1 Thessalonians 2:9-12.

For you recall, brethren, our labor and hardship, how working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly we behaved toward you believers;

11 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,

12 so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”  1 Thessalonians 2:9-12.

Paul set a good example for us of having a hard hat and lunch pail ministry.  Paul went to work each day and worked hard (“our labor and hardship, working night and day”) and did so in a manner that he was suppose to do it (“devoutly and uprightly and blamelessly”).  Paul did not complain or hesitate or shrink back from his work.  Every day, he put on his hard hat and took his lunch pail with him and went to work.

In teaching us to follow his example, Paul elaborated:  “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”  Acts 20:35  “The elders who rule well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.”  1 Timothy 5:17  “But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”  2 Timothy 4:5

But, who can work as hard and as perfectly in manner as we should?!

But, there is hope!

We have a Faithful Father!

“Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?  The lovingkindness of God endures all day long.”  Psalm 52:1.

“I, the Lord, am its keeper;
I water it every moment.
So that no one will damage it,
I guard it night and day.”  Isaiah 27:3.

“The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.”  Lamentations 3:22-23.

God is at work in us!  “for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”  Philippians 2:13.  “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 1:6.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;  against such things there is no law.”  Galatians 5:22-23.  Faithfulness is one of the fruit of the Spirit of God.

In conclusion, for such a hard hat and lunch pail ministry, “I will cry to God Most High, To God who accomplishes all things for me.”  Psalm 57:2
