Perseverance, Encouragement, and Hope: Gifts of God through Scriptures

Today’s devotion comes from 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.

19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.  20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews;  to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law;  21 to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.  22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak;  I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.  23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.”  1 Corinthians 9:19-23.

————————-

“Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves.  Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.  For even Christ did not please Himself;  but as it is written, “THE REPROACHES OF THOSE WHO REPROACHED YOU FELL ON ME.”  Romans 15:1-3.

Yes, we should “become all things to all men”.  Yes, we should “bear the weaknesses” of others.  Yes, each of should “please his neighbor for his good”.  Who can do all of this?!

But, there is hope!

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.  Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Romans 15:4-6.

Therefore, we read so many Scriptures, in part, because there is so much hope, perseverance, and encouragement in Scriptures.  I hope my Daily Devotions contain so many Scriptures.  I pray the Scriptures that I quote bring you this hope, perseverance, and encouragement.

God is the One Who “gives perseverance and encouragement”.  Romans 15:5.  I pray my Daily Devotions focus on that One God Who gives these gifts and help you trust God more.
