Circumcised by Christ

Today’s devotion comes from Genesis 17:9-14.

God said further to Abraham, “Now as for you, you shall keep My covenant, you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.  10 This is My covenant, which you shall keep, between Me and you and your descendants after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.  11 And you shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be the sign of the covenant between Me and you. 12 And every male among you who is eight days old shall be circumcised throughout your generations, a servant who is born in the house or who is bought with money from any foreigner, who is not of your descendants.  13 A servant who is born in your house or who is bought with your money shall surely be circumcised;  thus shall My covenant be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.  14 But an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his people;  he has broken My covenant.”  Genesis 17:9-14.

We are no longer required to be circumcised by human hands:  “… knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law;  since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.”  Galatians 2:16.

We were circumcised by Christ:  “and in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;”  Colossians 2:11

“When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us;  and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”  Colossians 2:13-14.
