“The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just”

Today’s devotion comes from Deuteronomy 32:1-4.

“1 Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak;
And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

2 “Let my teaching drop as the rain,
My speech distill as the dew,
As the droplets on the fresh grass
And as the showers on the herb.
3 “For I proclaim the name of the Lord;
Ascribe greatness to our God!
4 “The Rock!  His work is perfect,
For all His ways are just;
A God of faithfulness and without injustice,
Righteous and upright is He.”    Deuteronomy 32:1-4.

————————–

Today’s Scripture is the introduction to the Scripture which follows which is a long set of “finding of fault” facts in the LORD’s judgment against Israel.  But, before the these “finding of fault” facts were listed, the LORD wanted His name exalted primarily as a just God.  “The Rock!  His work is perfect, For all His ways are just;  A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.”  Verse 4.

Likewise, the section on predestination in The Canons of Dordt starts with the justice of God.

Article 1.  As all men have sinned in Adam, lie under the curse, and are deserving of eternal death, God would have done no injustice by leaving them all to perish, and delivering them over to condemnation on account of sin, according to the words of the apostle, Romans 3:19, “that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.”  And verse 23:  “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”   And Romans 6:23:  “for the wages of sin is death.”  FIRST HEAD OF DOCTRINE Of Divine Predestination.

Likewise, before we consider predestination a/k/a “Unconditional Election”, the “U” of “TULIP”, the Five Points of Calvinism, the Reformed Doctrine of Salvation, it is good for us to meditate on “The Rock!  His work is perfect, For all His ways are just;  A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.”  Verse 4.  If we do so, we may be less likely to bristle against predestination a/k/a “Unconditional Election”.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”  Proverbs 9:10.

My web site starts with a section “About God” at the top left tag.  In it, God’s justice is proclaimed including the following summary.  “Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;  but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth;  for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.” Jeremiah 9:23-24.
