“Surely God will shatter the head of His enemies, …. That your foot may shatter them in blood, The tongue of your dogs may have its portion from your enemies.”

Today’s devotion comes from Psalm 69:19-35. Due to the length of this devotion and the importance of the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, including but not limited to His love, care, and protection of His people from their enemies, we will pause a few days to meditate on today’s devotion. The next devotion, God willing, will be on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2068&version=NASB1995

I quote only the following verses.

“19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden,
The God who is our salvation. Selah.
20 God is to us a God of deliverances;
And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.
21 Surely God will shatter the head of His enemies,
The hairy crown of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.
22 The Lord said, “I will bring them back from Bashan.
I will bring them back from the depths of the sea;
23 That your foot may shatter them in blood,
The tongue of your dogs may have its portion from your enemies.

32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth,
Sing praises to the Lord, Selah.
33 To Him who rides upon the highest heavens, which are from ancient times;
Behold, He speaks forth with His voice, a mighty voice.
34 Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel
And His strength is in the skies.

35 O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people.
Blessed be God!
” Psalm 68:19-23 and 32-35.

—————–

The fierceness of the Lord toward His enemies and the protection of the Lord of His people is shockingly and vividly and figuratively displayed in verse 23 of today’s Scripture.

“That your foot may shatter them in blood,
The tongue of your dogs may have its portion from your enemies.” Verse 23.

That display helps us believe the strength and power that the Lord shows to His people.

“34 Ascribe strength to God;
His majesty is over Israel
And His strength is in the skies.
35 O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary.
The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people.
Blessed be God!” Verses 34 and 35.

That display helps us believe the promises of the Lord.

“19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden,
The God who is our salvation. Selah.
20 God is to us a God of deliverances;
And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.” Verses 19 and 20.

“Surely God will shatter the head of His enemies,
The hairy crown of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.” Verse 21.

That display helps us praise the Lord.

“Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth,
Sing praises to the Lord, Selah.” Verse 32.

Consider the following Scripture in how grace and peace is multiplied to us “in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord”. Consider also how God’s “divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him”.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.” 2 Peter 1:2-4.

Why then do some people reject what Scripture teaches us about the knowledge of God and the promises attached to it in order to cling to their images and idols of what they prefer God to be?! Some cling to their image and idol of God being some type of plump, jolly Santa Claus who is at the beck and call of all people to give them whatever they want.

But, that is not the God of Scripture taught in today’s Scripture in verses 21 to 23 and elsewhere in Scripture! God is a Righteous Judge, and God is also a Warrior! “

“3 “The LORD is a warrior;
The LORD is His name.
4 “Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea.
5 “The deeps cover them;
They went down into the depths like a stone.
6 “Your right hand, O LORD, is majestic in power,
Your right hand, O LORD, shatters the enemy.” Exodus 15:3-6.
7 And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You;
You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.” Exodus 15:3-7.

“11 God is a righteous judge,
And a God who has indignation every day.

12 If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword;
He has bent His bow and made it ready.
13 He has also prepared for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His arrows fiery shafts.” Psalm 7:11-13.

“6 Upon the wicked He will rain snares;
Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup.
7 For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness;
The upright will behold His face.” Psalm 11:6-7.

7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God!
For You have smitten all my enemies on the cheek;
You have shattered the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.” Psalm 3:7-8.

“The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice;
Let the many islands be glad.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.” Psalm 97:1-2.

“68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
For He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people,
69 And has raised up a horn of salvation for us
In the house of David His servant—
70 As He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from of old—
71 SALVATION FROM OUR ENEMIES,
AND FROM THE HAND OF ALL WHO HATE US;
72 To show mercy toward our fathers,
And to remember His holy covenant,
73 The oath which He swore to Abraham our father,
74 To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies,
Might serve Him without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.” Luke 1:68-75.

“The LORD your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” Zephaniah 3:17.

“But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them in my presence.” Luke 19:12.

“But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!” Luke 12:5.

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelation 19:11-16.
