Today’s devotion covers Luke 2:34-35 which covers Simeon’s prophecy to Mary.
“And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed–and a sword will pierce even your own soul–to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.” Luke 2:34-35.
This Scripture, although short in length, is long in meaning. We will focus on two points.
First, concerning Simeon’s prophecy that “this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel”, we are reminded that Jesus Christ is not only the Savior of many; He is also the Judge of all and will “bring forth justice”.
“And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.” John 9:39.
“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.” Matthew 25:31-33.
“1 “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
My chosen one in whom My soul delights
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the nations.
2 “He will not cry out or raise His voice,
Nor make His voice heard in the street.
3 “A bruised reed He will not break
And a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish;
He will faithfully bring forth justice.
4 “He will not be disheartened or crushed
Until He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law.” Isaiah 42:1-4. (Emphasis added.)

I have put My Spirit upon Him;

2 “He will not cry out or raise His voice,

3 “A bruised reed He will not break

4 “He will not be disheartened or crushed

And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law.” Isaiah 42:1-4. (Emphasis added.)
Second, concerning Simeon’s prophecy that “a sword will pierce even your own soul–to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”, Jesus Christ will reveal all the thoughts of all of our hearts.
“But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. “Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.” Luke 12:2-3.
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” Hebrews 4:12-13.
In conclusion, “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him! Luke 12:5
