Today’s devotion covers Luke 3:21-22 which covers the baptism of Jesus.

 

“Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased.”  Luke 3:21-22.  (Emphasis added.) 

 

 

 

“I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD:
         He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
         Today I have begotten You.”  Psalm 2:7.

 

“Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold;
         My chosen one in whom My soul delights
         I have put My Spirit upon Him;
         He will bring forth justice to the nations.”  Isaiah 42:1.  

 

^“While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”  Matthew 17:5. 

 

^“For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”–”  2 Peter 1:17.

 

 

 

First, all things were created by and for Christ.  ^“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him.  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”  Colossians 1:15-17.

 

Second, God gives absolute sovereignty over the nations and the right to judge all people to Jesus.  “Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.  ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'”  Psalm 2:8-9.  “For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,” John 5:22

 

Third, God has given people, the elect who constitute the true church, to be a bride for Christ.  “And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.”  Revelation 21:2  “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”  John 10:29  “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”  John 17:24

 

Fourth, God grants the request of Jesus for His people.  “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;”  John 14:16  “In that day you will not question Me about anything.  Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.”  John 16:23 

 

Fifth, God has given dominion over everyone to Jesus.  ^“For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  Philippians 2:9-11.
