“For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness.”

Today’s devotion is Luke 11:33-36.

33  “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.

 34  “The eye is the lamp of your body;  when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.

 35  “Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.

 36  “If therefore your whole body is full of light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.”  Luke 11:33-36.

Sin, such as haughty eyes and hypocrisy, makes our eyes unclear.

Proverbs 21:4
“Haughty eyes and a proud heart, The lamp of the wicked, is sin.”

Matthew 7:5
“You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

However, it is only God that can make our eyes clear, and it is only God who can illume us

“Consider and answer me, O LORD my God;  Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,”  Psalm 13:3

We should be humble and lift up our eyes to God from Whom our help comes.  Psalm 121:1

“For You light my lamp;  The LORD my God illumines my darkness.” Psalm 18:28.

The LORD is my light and my salvation;
         Whom shall I fear?
         The LORD is the defense of my life;
         Whom shall I dread?”  Psalm 27:1.
