Today’s devotion is John 10:1-3.
“1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.
2 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.
3 “To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” John 10:1-3.

What is the door?
When I did a keyword search of the word “door”, I found an amazing number of verses (217) which had the word “door” in it. Click here: BibleGateway.com – Keyword Search: door I gained insight from some of the verses of the importance of “door” in Scripture, particularly in the Old Testament, and why the word “door” was used in the Scripture for today.
Here are verses in the Old Testament which speak about the importance of “door”.
Exodus 12:23

The repeated use of the word “door” in the Old Testament, the importance of the “door” in the Old Testament, and how blood is associated with the word “door” is used in the Old Testament all leads us to the conclusion that the blood of Christ is the “door” of salvation in the Scripture for today.
So, what does the New Testament state about the importance of blood of Christ and what it allows?
Hebrews 9:7
“but into the second, only the high priest enters once a year, not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance.”

Notice how the high priest could not enter without taking blood!
Notice how that fits with the explanation in today’s Scripture that “he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.” In other words, if anyone pretends to be a Savior or Shepherd without bringing blood, he is a thief and a robber!
Notice how Christ, “through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”!
Notice how “we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,”!
And, how does the sheep hear His voice? By the blood of Christ!
Here is what The Canons of Dordt states about what was accomplished by the blood of Christ, including the ability to hear His voice (which is faith) with emphasis added.
Article 8. For this was the sovereign counsel, and most gracious will and purpose of God the Father, that the quickening and saving efficacy of the most precious death of his Son should extend to all the elect, for bestowing upon them alone the gift of justifying faith, thereby to bring them infallibly to salvation: that is, it was the will of God, that Christ by the blood of the cross, whereby he confirmed the new covenant, should effectually redeem out of every people, tribe, nation, and language, all those, and those only, who were from eternity chosen to salvation, and given to him by the Father; that he should confer upon them faith, which together with all the other saving gifts of the Holy Spirit, he purchased for them by his death; should purge them from all sin, both original and actual, whether committed before or after believing; and having faithfully preserved them even to the end, should at last bring them free from every spot and blemish to the enjoyment of glory in his own presence forever.
