 ⁴⁶  “I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.

 ⁴⁷  “If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him;  for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

 ⁴⁸  “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him;  the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.

 ⁴⁹  “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.

 ⁵⁰  “I know that His commandment is eternal life;  therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”  John 12:44-50.

The central theme of this Scripture is the unity between Jesus (Who is God the Son) and God the Father.  “He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me.”  “”He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me.”  “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak.”  “I know that His commandment is eternal life;  therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”

The importance of this point (of the unity between Jesus (Who is God the Son) and God the Father) is demonstrated by the fact that Jesus often emphasized it.  Here are some examples.

“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”  Matthew 10:40. 

“The one who listens to you listens to Me, and the one who rejects you rejects Me;  and he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”  Luke 10:16.

“Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.”  John 5:19. 

“So Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.”  John 7:16. 

“I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true;  and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.”  John 8:26.

“So Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.”  John 8:28. 

“I speak the things which I have seen with My Father;  therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.”  John 8:38.

“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me;  and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”  John 13:20. 

“Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip?  He who has seen Me has seen the Father;  how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”  John 14:9.

“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?  The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.”  John 14:10. 

“He who does not love Me does not keep My words;  and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.”  John 14:24. 

“but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me.  Get up, let us go from here.”  John 14:31. 

“for the words which You gave Me I have given to them;  and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me.”  John 17:8.
