Today’s devotion comes from John 14:16-17.
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17.

The Holy Spirit is simply referred to as “another Helper“, and yet we all know that the Holy Spirit helps us so much that the following John 21:25 could apply to the Holy Spirit as well as it applies to Jesus. “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.” John 21:25
However, we should not be too general with out mentioning at least one of the primary ways that the Holy Spirit helps us. Jesus stated in John 15:26: “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,” Likewise, Jesus stated in John 14:16: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
Last night, I did not sleep well. I was restless as I worried about so many different things. When I first read this Scripture, I wanted to use it to get the Holy Spirit to help me by “fixing” all my problems.
But, as I write this devotion, I appreciate the help that the Holy Spirit gives me by helping me to remember Scripture and to write what I should for these daily devotions, not only for today but for every day.
In a similar line of self-centered thought, we may be restless and worry about finances. We may read Scripture like Philippians 4:19 : “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” We may likewise want to use it to get God to give us whatever we want.
But, we later read: “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed; ” 2 Corinthians 9:8. Hopefully, we appreciate the purpose for which we get supplied, so that we will be able to do good deeds for others.
In conclusion, let us put more value on the Holy Spirit helping us to learn, write, talk, preach, and teach about Jesus. Let us put more value on that goal of learning and teaching about Jesus. In fact, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3
