Good Courage

Today’s devotion comes from 2 Corinthians 5:6-10.

6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight— 8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.  9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.  10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”  2 Corinthians 5:6-10.

———————————

We have “good courage”, because we “walk by faith”.  Verses 6 and 7.  “16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us.  God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.  17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment;  because as He is, so also are we in this world.  18 There is no fear in love;  but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. 19 We love, because He first loved us.”  1 John 4:16-19.

We do the things pleasing to God, because God first loved us, and His love abides in us:  “as He is, so also are we in this world”.  1 John 4:16-19.

We do not fear, because God’s perfect love within us casts out fear.  1 John 4:18.

We “may have confidence in the day of judgment”, “because as He is, so also are we in this world” and God’s perfect love within us casts out fear.  1 John 4:17-18.  Therefore, we have “good courage”.
