Today’s devotion comes from Revelation 21:12-14.
“It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west. And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.” Revelation 21:12-14.

Heaven is not just the home of “the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel”. Heaven is not just the home of “the twelve apostles of the Lamb”. Heaven is also our home.
Consider that both “the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel” and “the twelve apostles of the Lamb” were chosen. Consider that the “twelve” in “the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel” and in “the twelve apostles of the Lamb” represents a full and perfect number. Not one was lost.
Yes, of course, the twelve apostles deserve to be honored. Scripture confirms it. “Peter said, “Behold, we have left our own homes and followed You.” And He (Christ) said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life.” Luke 18:28-30.
But, I think at least one of the purposes of today’s Scripture is to motivate us to desire that our names be also written on the wall of Heaven and to come to the realization that our names are also written on the wall of Heaven. In a word, today’s Scripture drives us to faith. “By faith he (Abraham) lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Hebrews 11:9-10.
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22.
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;” Philippians 3:20
