Today’s devotion comes from Genesis Chapter 1.
In salvation and creation, Reformed Doctrine proclaims and celebrates God’s control (sovereignty) and God’s glory (“Glory to God Alone” – One of Reformed Doctrine’s Five Solas – “Soli Deo Gloria”).
However, some want to take control and glory away from God whether it be by alleged man’s free-will in salvation or by alleged evolution in creation.
But, from the very beginning, God declares His creation. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1.
And so, some try to pay lip service to God’s involvement by claiming that God may have started something, but evolution took over. They maintain that the world was not created in six days, but evolved over thousands of years. They maintain that evolution was in control to develop everything. They say: “Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!” Psalm 2:3.
But, “He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.” Psalm 2:4.
And then, God pounds the table that His Creation was done in six literal days. Between each stunning creation, God defines each day and declares:
“… And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” Genesis 1:5.
“… And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.” Genesis 1:8.
“There was evening and there was morning, a third day.” Genesis 1:13.
“There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.” Genesis 1:19.
“There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.” Genesis 1:23.
“God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31.
God did not just start creation and then wisely back off to let Mother Nature finish the job (Scoff!).
God created every living creature. “God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:21.
God did not create blobs that somehow morphed into distinct creatures, thanks to evolution (Scoff!).
God created distinct creatures “after their kind”. “Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind”; and it was so. “God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:24.
“God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. …” Genesis 1:31.
“
1 Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
Praise Him in the heights!
2 Praise Him, all His angels;
Praise Him, all His hosts!
3 Praise Him, sun and moon;
Praise Him, all stars of light!
4 Praise Him, highest heavens,
And the waters that are above the heavens!
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For He commanded and they were created.
6 He has also established them forever and ever;
He has made a decree which will not pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
Sea monsters and all deeps;
8 Fire and hail, snow and clouds;
Stormy wind, fulfilling His word;
9 Mountains and all hills;
Fruit trees and all cedars;
10 Beasts and all cattle;
Creeping things and winged fowl;
11 Kings of the earth and all peoples;
Princes and all judges of the earth;
12 Both young men and virgins;
Old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
For His name alone is exalted;
His glory is above earth and heaven.
14 And He has lifted up a horn for His people,
Praise for all His godly ones;
Even for the sons of Israel, a people near to Him.
Praise the Lord!” Psalm Chapter 148.
