“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He delights in his way.”

Today’s devotion comes from Numbers 33:1-49.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers+33&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“1 These are the journeys of the sons of Israel, by which they came out from the land of Egypt by their armies, under the leadership of Moses and Aaron.  2 Moses recorded their starting places according to their journeys by the command of the Lord, and these are their journeys according to their starting places.  3 They journeyed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the next day after the Passover the sons of Israel started out boldly in the sight of all the Egyptians, 4 while the Egyptians were burying all their firstborn whom the Lord had struck down among them.  The Lord had also executed judgments on their gods.

5 Then the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses and camped in Succoth.  6 They journeyed from Succoth and camped in Etham, which is on the edge of the wilderness.  7 They journeyed from Etham and turned back to Pi-hahiroth, which faces Baal-zephon, and they camped before Migdol.  8 They journeyed from before Hahiroth and passed through the midst of the sea into the wilderness;  and they went three days’ journey in the wilderness of Etham and camped at Marah.  9 They journeyed from Marah and came to Elim;  and in Elim there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they camped there.  10 They journeyed from Elim and camped by the Red Sea.  11 They journeyed from the Red Sea and camped in the wilderness of Sin.  12 They journeyed from the wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah.”  Numbers 33:1-12.

At times, we may feel like we wander.  At times, we may feel like we are in the wilderness.  And, at times, we may actually be wandering and in the wilderness.

But, our journeys are not random.  Our journeys are not worthless.  Our journeys are not to be forgotten.  Today’s Scripture carefully shows that “Moses recorded their starting places according to their journeys by the command of the Lord.  …”.  Verse 2.

Our journeys are established by the LORD.  God cares about our journeys.  God leads us even when we feel like we are wandering.  God provides for us in the wilderness times of our lives.

“You shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not.  He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.  Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.  Thus you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son.  Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.”  Deuteronomy 8:2-6.

“23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord,
And He delights in his way.
24 When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong,
Because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.”  Psalm 37:23-24.

“The law of his God is in his heart;
His steps do not slip.”  Psalm 37:31.

“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”  Romans 8:14.

“2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.”  Psalm 23:2-3.

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous!  Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9.

“8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
9 Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.”  Psalm 32:8-11.
