“election is the fountain of every saving good”

Today’s devotion comes from Psalm 105:1-24.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+105&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
2 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
Speak of all His wonders.
3 Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
4 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,
6 O seed of Abraham, His servant,
O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.

8 He has remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,
9 The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac.
10 Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the portion of your inheritance,”
12 When they were only a few men in number,
Very few, and strangers in it.”  Psalm 105:1-12.

———————————

The Psalmist reminds them that they are recipients of God’s blessings, because they are His chosen ones.

“Remember His wonders which He has done, …
O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!”  Verses 5-6.

The Psalmist reminds them that the covenantal blessing of Canaan was given to them “When they were only a few men in number,
Very few, and strangers in it.”  Verse 12.

“The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”  Deuteronomy 7:7-8.

We too are recipients of God’s blessings, because we too are God’s chosen ones.

When Reformed Doctrine teaches “Unconditional Election”, it is not some dusty cold theological point that should be minimized, but it is just the opposite, election is the warm embracing all-important basis and reason why God blesses us.

“… election is the fountain of every saving good;  from which proceed faith, holiness, and the other gifts of salvation, and finally eternal life itself …”  Article 9 of FIRST HEAD OF DOCTRINE Of Divine Predestination of Canons of Dordt.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him.  …”  Ephesians 1:3-4.
