“How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion!”

Today’s devotion comes from Psalm chapter 115.  Here is a link to this chapter –  https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+115&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
But to Your name give glory
Because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth.
2 Why should the nations say,
“Where, now, is their God?”
3 But our God is in the heavens;
He does whatever He pleases.

9 O Israel, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord;
He is their help and their shield.
12 The Lord has been mindful of us;  He will bless us;
He will bless the house of Israel;
He will bless the house of Aaron.
13 He will bless those who fear the Lord,
The small together with the great.
14 May the Lord give you increase,
You and your children.
15 May you be blessed of the Lord,
Maker of heaven and earth.

16 The heavens are the heavens of the Lord,
But the earth He has given to the sons of men.
17 The dead do not praise the Lord,
Nor do any who go down into silence;
18 But as for us, we will bless the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
Praise the Lord!”  Psalm 115:1-3 and 9-18.

———————–

God indeed is sovereign as is described in verse 3.

“But our God is in the heavens;
He does whatever He pleases.”  Verse 3.

God indeed is “Maker of heaven and earth” as stated in verse 15.

But, today’s Scripture emphasizes how the LORD uses His sovereign power.

“He will bless those who fear the Lord,
The small together with the great.”  Verse 13.

The LORD gives “increase” to us and our children.  Verse 14.

The LORD has given us “increase” in our life in so many different ways.

“11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord gives grace and glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
How blessed is the man who trusts in You!”  Psalm 84:11-12.

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”  Romans 8:32.

But, these blessings are not random.  God designs and causes the blessings according to His perfect plan to have a good cumulative effect.

The vivid images of the following Scripture shows that these blessings strengthen us (“They go from strength to strength”).  These blessings also bless others (“Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring”).  These blessings lead us and others to the LORD (“In whose heart are the highways to Zion!  …  Every one of them appears before God in Zion.”).

“5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
In whose heart are the highways to Zion!
6 Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring;
The early rain also covers it with blessings.
7 They go from strength to strength,
Every one of them appears before God in Zion.”  Psalm 84:5-7.
