“Here is your God!” Behold, the Lord God will come with might” – “Then His own arm brought salvation to Him” – “A victorious warrior”

Today’s devotion comes from Isaiah 40:1-17.  Here is a link to this Scripture – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah+40&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

A voice says, “Call out.”
Then he answered, “What shall I call out?”
All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
When the breath of the Lord blows upon it;
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
But the word of our God stands forever.

Get yourself up on a high mountain,
O Zion, bearer of good news,
Lift up your voice mightily,
O Jerusalem, bearer of good news;
Lift it up, do not fear.
Say to the cities of Judah,
“Here is your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord God will come with might,
With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His reward is with Him
And His recompense before Him.
11 Like a shepherd He will tend His flock,
In His arm He will gather the lambs
And carry them in His bosom;
He will gently lead the nursing ewes.”  Isaiah 40:6-11.

Today’s Scripture humbles man:  “All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.”  Verse 6.

Like grass withers, and the flower fades, man’s life is short and memory of him fades away.

Lord, make me to know my end
And what is the extent of my days;
Let me know how transient I am.
“Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths,
And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight;
Surely every man at his best is a mere breath.  Selah.
“Surely every man walks about as a phantom;
Surely they make an uproar for nothing;
He amasses riches and does not know who will gather them.”  Psalm 39:4-6.

What is more consistent with this Scripture’s image of man?

Other doctrine which tries to puff man up with alleged man’s free-will, self-improvement, and self-reliance?

Or, Reformed Doctrine which humbles man through its teaching of man’s “Total Depravity”?

Today’s Scripture exalts God.

“Here is your God!”
10 Behold, the Lord God will come with might,
With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His reward is with Him
And His recompense before Him.”  Verses 9-10.

What is more consistent with this Scripture’s image of God?

Other doctrine whose god waits with arms folded to react to man’s free-will?

Or, Reformed Doctrine whose God initiates and accomplishes salvation, coming with might to save and to take care of His flock?

“And He saw that there was no man,
And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Then His own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.”     Isaiah 59:16.

The Lord your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”  Zephaniah 3:7.
