“Hate evil, you who love the Lord, Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.”

Today’s devotion comes from Ezekiel chapter 9.  Here is a link to this chapter – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel+9&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“Then He cried out in my hearing with a loud voice saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with his destroying weapon in his hand.”  Behold, six men came from the direction of the upper gate which faces north, each with his shattering weapon in his hand;  and among them was a certain man clothed in linen with a writing case at his loins.  And they went in and stood beside the bronze altar.

Then the glory of the God of Israel went up from the cherub on which it had been, to the threshold of the temple.  And He called to the man clothed in linen at whose loins was the writing case.  The Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, even through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.”  But to the others He said in my hearing, “Go through the city after him and strike;  do not let your eye have pity and do not spare.  Utterly slay old men, young men, maidens, little children, and women, but do not touch any man on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.”  So they started with the elders who were before the temple.”  Ezekiel 9:1-6.

————————

It is interesting that the LORD saved those “who sigh and groan over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.”  Verse 4.

We think of how God saved Lot who likewise “felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds”.

God “… condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter;”, but God “… rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds),”  2 Peter 2:6-8.

“I hate the assembly of evildoers,
And I will not sit with the wicked.”  Psalm 26:5.

“I hate those who regard vain idols,
But I trust in the Lord.”  Psalm 31:6.

Hate evil, you who love the Lord,
Who preserves the souls of His godly ones;
He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.”  Psalm 97:10.

“Burning indignation has seized me because of the wicked,
Who forsake Your law.”  Psalm 119:53.

“From Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.”  Psalm 119:104.

126 It is time for the Lord to act,
For they have broken Your law.
127 Therefore I love Your commandments
Above gold, yes, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I esteem right all Your precepts concerning everything,
I hate every false way.”  Psalm 119:126-128.

135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant,
And teach me Your statutes.
136 My eyes shed streams of water,
Because they do not keep Your law.”  Psalm 119:135-136.

162 I rejoice at Your word,
As one who finds great spoil.
163 I hate and despise falsehood,
But I love Your law.”  Psalm 119:162-163.
