“And He saw that there was no man, … to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him”

Today’s devotion comes from Ezekiel chapter 22.  Here is a link to this chapter –

I quote only the following verses.

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Son of man, say to her, ‘You are a land that is not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.’  There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey.  They have devoured lives;  they have taken treasure and precious things;  they have made many widows in the midst of her.  Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things;  they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean;  and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.  Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain.  Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken.  The people of the land have practiced oppression and committed robbery, and they have wronged the poor and needy and have oppressed the sojourner without justice.  I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it;  but I found no one.”  Ezekiel 22:23-30.

Other doctrine keeps searching for that man who would save.

But, Reformed Doctrine knows there is no man who could save, and Reformed Doctrine summarizes Scripture by teaching that man’s natural condition is “Total Depravity”.

10 as it is written,

There is none righteous, not even one;
11 There is none who understands,
There is none who seeks for God;
12 All have turned aside, together they have become useless;
There is none who does good,
There is not even one.”
13 Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
The poison of asps is under their lips”;
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness”;
15 Their feet are swift to shed blood,
16 Destruction and misery are in their paths,
17 And the path of peace they have not known.”
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

Reformed Doctrine knows that only God can save.  God is the One and Only Victorious Warrior.

16 And He saw that there was no man,
And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Then His own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
And a helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.
18 According to their deeds, so He will repay,
Wrath to His adversaries, recompense to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will make recompense.
19 So they will fear the name of the Lord from the west
And His glory from the rising of the sun,
For He will come like a rushing stream
Which the wind of the Lord drives.
20 “A Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” declares the Lord.”  Isaiah 59:16-20.

The Lord your God is in your midst,
A victorious warrior.
He will exult over you with joy,
He will be quiet in His love,
He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”  Zephaniah 3:17.
