“The pride of man will be humbled And the loftiness of men will be abased; And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,”

Today’s devotion comes from Ezekiel chapter 27.  Here is a link to this chapter – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel+27&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me saying, “And you, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre;  and say to Tyre, who dwells at the entrance to the sea, merchant of the peoples to many coastlands, ‘Thus says the Lord God,

“O Tyre, you have said, ‘I am perfect in beauty.’
“Your borders are in the heart of the seas;
Your builders have perfected your beauty.
“They have made all your planks of fir trees from Senir;
They have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.
“Of oaks from Bashan they have made your oars;
With ivory they have inlaid your deck of boxwood from the coastlands of Cyprus.
“Your sail was of fine embroidered linen from Egypt
So that it became your distinguishing mark;
Your awning was blue and purple from the coastlands of Elishah.
“The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were your rowers;
Your wise men, O Tyre, were aboard;  they were your pilots.
“The elders of Gebal and her wise men were with you repairing your seams;
All the ships of the sea and their sailors were with you in order to deal in your merchandise.

27 “Your wealth, your wares, your merchandise,
Your sailors and your pilots,
Your repairers of seams, your dealers in merchandise
And all your men of war who are in you,
With all your company that is in your midst,
Will fall into the heart of the seas
On the day of your overthrow.

36 ‘The merchants among the peoples hiss at you;
You have become terrified
And you will cease to be forever.’”’”  Ezekiel 27:1-9 and 27 and 36.

“Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before stumbling.”  Proverbs 16:18.

12 For the Lord of hosts will have a day of reckoning
Against everyone who is proud and lofty
And against everyone who is lifted up,
That he may be abased.
13 And it will be against all the cedars of Lebanon that are lofty and lifted up,
Against all the oaks of Bashan,
14 Against all the lofty mountains,
Against all the hills that are lifted up,
15 Against every high tower,
Against every fortified wall,
16 Against all the ships of Tarshish
And against all the beautiful craft.
17 The pride of man will be humbled
And the loftiness of men will be abased;
And the Lord alone will be exalted in that day,

22 Stop regarding man, whose breath of life is in his nostrils;
For why should he be esteemed?”  Isaiah 2:12-17 and 22.

Thus says the LORD, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches;  but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth;  for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.”  Jeremiah 9:23-24.
