“fear the One who … has authority to cast into hell” – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”

Today’s devotion come from Luke 12:1-5.

“Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.  But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.  Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.

“I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.  But I will warn you whom to fear:  fear the One who, after He has killed, has authority to cast into hell;  yes, I tell you, fear Him!”  Luke 12:1-5.

“Accordingly, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.”  Verse 3.

We have cameras everywhere.  Almost every person has a cell phone which has a camera.  There are traffic cameras on many intersections, and almost every business has security cameras.  And then, photographs and videos can be posted by anyone on YouTube, Facebook, and many other internet web sites which can show them worldwide.

But more importantly and comprehensively, God knows our every action, every word, and every thought, and God has the authority and power to cast in hell.

“7 They have said, “The LORD does not see,
Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.”

8 Pay heed, you senseless among the people;
And when will you understand, stupid ones?
9 He who planted the ear, does He not hear?
He who formed the eye, does He not see?
10 He who chastens the nations, will He not rebuke,
Even He who teaches man knowledge?
11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man,
That they are a mere breath.”  Psalm 94:7-11.

“If you say, “See, we did not know this,”
Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts?
And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not render to man according to his work?”  Proverbs 24:12.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”  2 Corinthians 5:10.

If we consider those wise who fear being exposed by cameras and who thereby refrain from bad deeds, then how much more should we consider those wise who fear being exposed by God (and punished by God who has the authority and power to cast into hell) and who by such fear of God refrain from bad deeds?!

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments;
His praise endures forever.”  Psalm 111:10.
