“I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.”

Today’s devotion comes from Luke 19:45-48.

“Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling, saying to them, “It is written, ‘AND MY HOUSE SHALL BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER,’ but you have made it a ROBBERS’ DEN.”

And He was teaching daily in the temple;  but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people were trying to destroy Him, and they could not find anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to every word He said.”  Luke 19:45-48.

—————-

“Even those I will bring to My holy mountain
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar;
For My house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.”  Isaiah 56:7.

In verses 47-48, we also read “He was teaching daily in the temple” and “all the people were hanging on to every word He said.”  So, we understand the church is also a place of teaching in addition to being a place of prayer.

“His disciples remembered that it was written, “ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME.”  John 2:17.

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of the LORD.”  Psalm 122:1.

“10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD gives grace and glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
12 O LORD of hosts,
How blessed is the man who trusts in You!”  Psalm 84:10-12.
