Today’s devotion comes from 2 Peter 1:12-15.
“Therefore, I will always be ready to remind you of these things, even though you already know them, and have been established in the truth which is present with you. I consider it right, as long as I am in this earthly dwelling, to stir you up by way of reminder, knowing that the laying aside of my earthly dwelling is imminent, as also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will also be diligent that at any time after my departure you will be able to call these things to mind.” 2 Peter 1:12-15.

Life is short. We may depart sooner than expected. We may depart by dying. And, even if we live, we may depart by being physically or mentally unwilling or unable to continue our ministry. And, even if we live and are physically and mentally willing and able to continue our ministry, we may depart by God’s call to minister to different people.
The theme of today’s Scripture is the importance of reminding others of the truth, so that after we depart, they will remember the truth.
There are different ways to remind others of the truth. This devotion will only mention a few ways (reminders).
The Apostle Peter wrote letters that would be available to others to read again and again to remind others of the truth even after he departed.
“This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.” 2 Peter 3:1-2.
The Apostle Paul also wrote letters that would be available to others to read again and again to remind others of the truth even after he departed, but he also trained Timothy to remind others of the truth even after he departed.
“For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church.” 1 Corinthians 4:17.
“You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:1-2.
Likewise, we can train our children, disciples, elders, seminary students, and others to remind others of the truth even after we depart.
We can write letters, articles, books, website posts, and other writings to remind others of the truth even after we depart.
We can distribute Bibles like the Gideons to remind others of the truth even after we depart.
We can clip out, forward, and otherwise share good Christian articles, books, videos, and other recordings to remind others of the truth even after we depart.
Most importantly, there is additional help!
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26.
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.” John 16:13-15.
