“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?” – “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us … righteousness and sanctification, and redemption”

Today’s devotion comes from Genesis 7:1-5.

Then the LORD said to Noah, “Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time.  You shall take with you of every clean animal by sevens, a male and his female;  and of the animals that are not clean two, a male and his female;  also of the birds of the sky, by sevens, male and female, to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth.  For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights;  and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made.”  Noah did according to all that the LORD had commanded him.”  Genesis 7:1-5.

In verse 1, highlighted above in bold italic font, the LORD is also making the important general point that only the righteous will enter salvation.

“For I say to you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5:20.

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?  Do not be deceived;  neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.”  1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

“These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”  Matthew 25:46.

But, there is hope!

Such were some of you;  but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:11.

“For as through the one man’s (Adam’s) disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (Christ) the many will be made righteous.  The Law came in so that the transgression would increase;  but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 5:19-21.

“But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe;  for there is no distinction;  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;”  Romans 3:21-23.

“19 Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I shall enter through them, I shall give thanks to the LORD.
20 This is the gate of the LORD;
The righteous will enter through it.
21 I shall give thanks to You, for You have answered me,
And You have become my salvation.” Psalm 118:19-21.

But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD.”  1 Corinthians 1:30-31.
