61 But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
62 “What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.” John 6:59-65.
Indeed, there were so many words of Jesus in this Chapter 6 of the Book of John that were difficult for the disciples to accept. But, these words were, and are, spirit and life.
So, in review, what were some of the Jesus’ words that were difficult for the disciples to accept?
“Therefore they said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” John 6:28-29.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:44.
“This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.” John 6:39.
“So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” John 6:53-56.
These words are the essence of Reformed Doctrine a/k/a Calvinism. Salvation, including creating faith, is the work of God. John 6:28-29. “Unconditional Election” and “Irresistible Grace”, the “U” and “I” of “TULIP”, are the necessary causes of salvation. John 6:44. Jesus perfectly accomplishes the will of God by “Limited Atonement” and “Perseverance of the Saints a/k/a Preservation of the Saints”, the “L” and “P” of “TULIP”. John 6:39. We have no life in ourselves which is “Total Depravity”, the “T” of “TULIP”. John 6:53-56.
Reformed Doctrine a/k/a Calvinism is difficult to accept, but these words are spirit and life.
