“Thus says the Lord, “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor.”

Today’s devotion comes from Amos chapter 8.  Here is a link to this chapter – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Amos+8&version=NASB

I quote only the following verses.

“4 Hear this, you who trample the needy, to do away with the humble of the land, 5 saying,

“When will the new moon be over,
So that we may sell grain,
And the sabbath, that we may open the wheat market,
To make the bushel smaller and the shekel bigger,
And to cheat with dishonest scales,
6 So as to buy the helpless for money
And the needy for a pair of sandals,
And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?”

7 The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob,
“Indeed, I will never forget any of their deeds.”  Amos 8:4-7.

————————

“Thus says the LORD, “Do justice and righteousness, and deliver the one who has been robbed from the power of his oppressor.  Also do not mistreat or do violence to the stranger, the orphan, or the widow;  and do not shed innocent blood in this place.”  Jeremiah 22:3.

“But let justice roll down like waters
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”  Amos 5:24.

“4 Do all the workers of wickedness not know,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call upon the Lord?
5 There they are in great dread,
For God is with the righteous generation.”  Psalm 14:4-5.

“17 O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear
18 To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed,
So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.”  Psalm 10:17-18.

“5 A father of the fatherless and a judge for the widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
6 God makes a home for the lonely;
He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, …”  Psalm 68:5-6.
